{"id":2801,"date":"2021-05-23T12:32:06","date_gmt":"2021-05-23T12:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vrforcad.com\/?p=2801"},"modified":"2021-05-24T10:00:30","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T10:00:30","slug":"objects-attributes-bim-in-simlab-composer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simlab-soft.com\/blog\/objects-attributes-bim-in-simlab-composer\/","title":{"rendered":"Objects Attributes (BIM) in SimLab Composer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>3D CAD applications such as Autodesk Inventor and Solid works rely on documenting technical data of components to insure manufacturing integrity, and the method they use to document this data is implementing <strong>Attributes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attributes are a crucial element that facilitate the transition of a compoenent from the design phase to the production phase, therefore, SimLab Composer realized this importance and invested not only in being able to read those attributes and export them, but also in utilizing them in the creation of interactive VR experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Attributes Panel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon importing a 3D model that has Attributes in it, you are able to view and edit those attributes from the object&#8217;s tab to the right. This function allows you to search for <strong>Objects Name, Attribute Name <\/strong>or<strong> Attribute Value<\/strong>, and all objects matching the query will be selected when you click the preview button. Once the objects are selected, use the Add Icon to append the selected objects to the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Attributes in VR<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To display attributes in VR, you need 3 elements : <strong>a Variable, a Variable Writer<\/strong>, and <strong>a Get Attribute Response<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea is to store the attribute value in a variable through the Get attribute response in the Training Builder, then have a variable writer display this Variable in VR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"923\" height=\"484\" src=\"https:\/\/vrforcad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/GetAttribute_Screenshot.jpg\" alt=\"TrainingBuilder Get attribute response\" class=\"wp-image-2826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/simlab-soft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/GetAttribute_Screenshot.jpg 923w, https:\/\/simlab-soft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/GetAttribute_Screenshot-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/simlab-soft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/GetAttribute_Screenshot-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 923px) 100vw, 923px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\"><em>This is a screenshot of simple attribute event system. When you trigger the Groove pin component in VR, its Material attribute will be written in a variable named &#8220;Material&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can combine the use of templates along with attributes to simplify the process of creating an Attribute Based interactive VR experience.
